Investigation Summary and Ban of Community Members

Today, we have announced the final bans for seven community members who were involved in creating and using the “Cheat Menu.” This cheat was embedded into several mods for Squad, which had been used for months in community-organized competitive events, including the most recent Offworld-run Squad Arena tournament.

Involvement of Modders and Their Tools

The creators of these cheats were competitive players who had been on multiple teams over the years. They had created mods for map layers, custom admin tools, and more. It was later discovered that they were the creators of these invasive mods, which undermined the integrity of competitive play in these events.

Misunderstanding from Offworld’s Side

Unfortunately, Offworld, like many others, was misled by these modders. They demonstrated the ability to create the tools we needed for the tournament and showed initiative in collaborating with us on these events. We relied on them for future competitive support while our team focused on Unreal Engine 5.

Call for Modders and Future Plans

In January 2025, I (Ceeg) reached out to the entire Squad Modding Discord, asking for help in creating mods for the upcoming tournament. Two modders presented existing competitive mods that could be adjusted for Squad Arena. Payment was planned for the mod creation, but no money was exchanged due to unfinalized processing.

Support for Open-Source Mods to Maintain Integrity

Despite the incident, we remain committed to supporting the competitive scene in Squad. Moving forward, we promise that any mods we use will be open-source, ensuring full integrity and transparency in competitive play.

Apologies and Thanks for Support

We want to apologize to all teams affected by this situation. This incident does not change our commitment to growing the competitive community. We continue to work on new events and tournaments for Squad, with plans to host another one before the end of the year. The community played an important role in the investigation, and we thank everyone who helped uncover these cheats.
